From Adriatic Coast to the Etruscan Coast

OVERVIEW

Discover the essence of Italy. Join us as we dip our toes in the Adriatic sea and traverse the enchanting regions of Emila Romgna, Umbria,and Tuscany to the Mediterranean coast. Along the way, you'll indulge in sumptuous cuisines, world renowned wines and charming medieval towns. You'll ride across the gentle, misty Apennine mountain range, roll through vine-covered landscapes and climb up to the towerings  of San Gimignano before you celebrate your journey's end on the stunning Etruscan Coast in Tuscany with a sunset cocktail. This is truly the once-in-a-lifetime experience for lovers of all things Italian!

DETAILS ITINERARY

DAY 1: WELCOME to EMILIA ROMAGNA

25th May

Arriving in Cesenatico at Lungomare Bike Hotel that boasts a long tradition of hospitality. Since 1954, the Pasolini family has been welcoming guests and offering an oasis of relaxation and well-being, an ideal spot for biking enthusiasts from beginners to professionals, and also of the triathletes, intent on cycling through unspoilt villages and experiencing panoramic hills and landscapes, from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennine mountains stretching between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna.

Cesenatico is a land of cyclists and the birthplace of Marco Pantani, the great climber, who trained in the hinterland hills and got 46 career victories!
12,00 – 4,30 pm. Post-training buffet. Our lunch buffet is soooo long. You can have lunch until 4,30 pm, if you prefer to have a shower or relax before having your meal.Setting of the bike. Check the wheels, inspect the tires, lube the chain, check the shifting. That’s the moment in which you have to feel your bike. And remember to collect mineral salts and banana in reception!
At 6.30 pm there is the welcome drink and briefing with our guides who will explain the whole program of the week.

 

Ride: about km 40 with some rolling and flat road
(150 mt elevation gain)

Non-riders:

Visit the port’s canal of Cesenatico. Created in the sixteenth  century from a design by Leonardo da Vinci, today this is the pulsating heart of the city that has a different soul every season. The best way to discover it is on foot. Each home hides a soul: a typical osteria, a place to buy a piadina to eat, a museum or a craft shop, each activity is a place to discover.
Pantani’s Space. This is the museum dedicated to champion cyclist Marco Pantani who was born in Cesenatico. Here you can retrace the Pirata’s (his nickname was the Pirate) extraordinary career with the display of memorabilia and photos. This is a must-see if you are a sports fan”

DAY 2: ROMAGNA BETWEEN ART AND TASTE

26th May

Don’t miss the appointment with ROMAGNA BETWEEN ART AND TASTE! The tour includes a visit to local farms and free tasting of typical products such as: piadina, cheese, cold cuts and sweets. The tour also touches on some of the city landmark of history and traditions, as Santarcangelo and Rimini, where you can see the Arch of Augustus, Tiberius’ Bridge and the Malatesta Fortress.

 

Ride: about 80 km, with one long regular climbs (800 mt
elevation gain)
Meals Included: B,L,D + free tasting in a local farms

Non-riders:
Rich and free taste in the hills, offered by the hotel, at the country farm house. If you wish, you can buy local home-made products. We leave from the Hotel by bus.
Spa & Wellness. Our small and intimate SPA is at your disposal to free your mind and relax your body. Don't you need to close your eyes too, smile and give yourself up completely? Our qualified staff will help you find the most suitable wellness program and find your way among the services of the Spa: Salinized swimming pool 20 meters long and 8 wide, heated to 29 degrees from March to November, with whirlpool. Ideal for swimming and a few strokes in "relax" mode, it is also excellent for triathletes, who want to train with any outside temperature.In summer you can take advantage of the solarium area with sun beds and umbrellas for sunbathing, listen to your favorite music with your feet soaking or cool off with a cocktail by the pool. To each his own swimming pool: there is also for the children! Maybe you don't know but the children of the Lungomare hotel enjoy special attention. A very fun swimming pool, only 50 centimeters deep, is dedicated to them to bathe safely with mom and dad. The water is salinized
and heated to 29 degrees throughout the season so you don't necessarily have to go to the beach to play with the water! If you want to keep in shape, our sea view gym with Technogym equipment will do the trick.

DAY 3: MONTELEONE and SORRIVOLI CASTLE TOUR

27th June

This is the day of the excursion which takes you to Monteleone or Sorrivoli, local Medieval villages that are half-moon shaped around their castle. Here will stop for a snack. The landscapes are completely immersed in nature and offer the vision of the remains of a glorious past. Interesting to see, the cities of Roncofreddo, Montiano and Longiano that are touched by these routes.

Non-riders:
- We meet the cyclists and the tour guides in Montiano for a collective snack!
- Cooking Class with Francesca. Learn to cook like a real  Romagna azdora! Francesca will teach you the secrets of Romagna cuisine and the culinary traditions that the Pasolini family has handed down from generation to generation

DAY 4: TRANSFER DAY UP TO CHARMING VILLAGE OF PENNABILLI

28th June

Leaving Romagna and our hotel, we turn again towards the valley before arrive to the stunning village of San Leo where we’ll have time to explore the village and drink another good coffee or cappuccino. Towards the Appenines our ride will end at the nice hotel in the charming village of Pennabilli.

 

Ride: about 65km ( 1500 mt elevation gain)

Accommodation: Hotel Il Duca Del Montefeltro ( Pennabilli )


Non-riders: Visit and explore the stunning village of San Leo with all its treasures.

DAY 5: FROM CHIANTI TO SAN GIMIGNANO - WELCOME TO TUSCANY

29th June

Say ciao ciao to Emilia Romagna and with an easy transfer we’ll arrive up to the village of Radda in Chianti,the noble capital of the tuscan red wine.

Lunch and wine tasting at the local winery .You can’t miss to drink the icon of Italians red wine,of course all accompanied with fresch bruschette and cheese.
A nice descending into the Chianti’s hills before to ride up to the UNESCO village of San Gimignano, your final destination.

Special dinner at the local restaurant of our friend Patrick.,tonight.

Non-riders: Visit the wine museum iGreve in Chianti and explore the village.
Shopping /walking tour at the village of Radda in Chianti.

DAY 6: VOLTERRA & TUSCAN COAST (epic day)

30th June

Another spectacular day, another famous city on our way before finally arriving on the Mediterranean coast, at Volterra. Famous in recent years thanks to the Twilight Saga, the city is famous for the extraction of alabaster and was also one of the first cities of Tuscany of old (Etruria). Here we will see the Etruscan historical centre, the Roman theatre ruins, medieval buildings such as the cathedral and the Medici Fortress, making this village a real Tuscan jewel.

Our ride will end on the coast where you will spend the last two nights in the enchanting Tenuta La Bandita in Sassetta or Relais Sant’ Elena in Bolgheri.

Non-riders: Visit, shopping in Volterra. Private cooking lesson.

DAY 7: BOLGHERI – THE BORDEAUX OF TUSCANY

31th June

Our last ride in Tuscany and we can’t miss Bolgheri, a small medieval village famous all over the world for having established itself over the years as a perfect place for giving life to the prestigious wines now called Super Tuscans. Wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Masseto and many others.

Today will be a great day on the road with an epic route that will take us on a ride of discovery through this still intact part of Tuscany, straddling the coast and the hinterland.

Of course…  Super Tuscan wine for your final dinner.

 

Ride: about 70 km ( 700/800 mt elevation gain)
Meals Included: B,L,D
Accommodation: Tenuta La Bandita


Non-riders: Visit Populonia.The city was an ancient Etruscan settlement, named Fufluna (from Fufluns, the Etruscan god of wine and intoxication) or Pupluna, the only Etruscan town built along the coast.Explore the charming village of Bolgheri.

Day 8: Ciao ciao Toscana

27st June

All good things must as to an end and it is time to say “goodbye”. In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we can help you arrange a transfer to your next destination.
Goodbye, thank you for joining us in Italy and have a safe journey home.
